Users have 'request delivery receipt' on by default for their 'auditing' purposes in Outlook. They would like the original email attached to the delivery notification as was the case in Exchange Server 2003. Ex 2007 does not attach the original message in the delivery notification. I need this same functionality in 2007!

We have just migrated our e-mail to a new Exchange 2007 server from 2003. On Exchange 2003 if a local user sent an e-mail from outlook, with the "delivery receipt" option set to an external recipient then the sender received a Delivery Status Notification (Relay) message saying that the messages to the extrnal address(es) had been relayed by exchange to the internet.

Right click on your SMTP Virtual Server – Properties – Delivery tab. I changed my Delay notification from 12 hours to 18 hours, and the Expiration timeout from 2 days to 4 days. You will need to tweak these settings to what is appropriate for your particular environment.Author: Aseem Kishore

When Exchange processes this email it will send an NDR / DSN (Non-Delivery Report / Delivery Status Notification) email back to the sender of any email that is going to an invalid address but because the original address was spoofed or fake the messages will either fail or go back to the person who actually uses the true email address, who may then report it / you as spam.
