Aug 16, 2012 · I was working on an SBS 2003 server that had e-mails for one user that would not deliver. They were stuck in the Local Delivery Queue in Exchange 2003 in a retry state. I tried to force connection, but they would never budge.

Exchange 2003 local delivery queue in retry state won't unfreeze on SBS 2003 R2. Blue Screen event caused a bad stripe on a RAID5 volume containing the OS partition and Exchsrve folder etc. Reinstalled SBS and recovered full system state and all OS partition from recent NTBackup.

When a delivery queue is in the status of Retry, you can manually force an immediate connection attempt by using Queue Viewer in the Exchange Toolbox or the Retry-Queue cmdlet in the Exchange Management Shell. The manual retry attempt overrides the next scheduled retry time. If the connection isn't successful, the retry interval timer is reset.
