In the X1 menu I was prompted to upgrade my DVR to 300 hours for $10/month. The option is here: Xfinity > Saved > Recordings > "Upgrade DVR Plan" (scroll to the bottom) Apparently, I currently have 150 hours local DVR and 60 hours 150 hours Cloud DVR. The upgrade does not appear to include a hardware swap so I assume the increased storage is all additional cloud space.

A person can purchase a drive for a pure DIY for around $50 or a pre-configured drive from a vendor like DVRUpgrade for around $100.
