The only reason to visit Downtown Crossing? If you are over 65 and plan on depending on the MBTA for transport (as we did during our visit), you can purchase a Charlie pass for seniors at the MBTA office at Downtown Crossing that allows you to ride the subway for $1 a ride and buses for 75 cents. (But good luck finding a usable bus route map.)
