Regarding how long DLP lamps last, as mentioned, it depends on the brand of the lamp. Philips and Osram are two of the most dependable brands, and you don't want to buy a remanufactured lamp. While the older DLP lamps last between 1,000 and 2,000 hours, the newer ones can give you 6,000 to 7,000 hours worth of TV viewing.

Just checked my bulb hours as I have had the Samsung 50 inch DLP for 3 years, reading was 10,790 hours. I turn it on in the morning and leave it on most of the day, maybe that is better than turning on and off many times. As related above after reaching OPTIONS I had to use right arrow button on remote to get the hours.

I've found conflicting reports about DLP projection TV lamp life. This site says 10,000 hours, but Consumer Reports had a recent issue that claimed a typical life of about 5,000 hours--close to what I got. This is the dirty little secret that the DLP vendors are sweeping under the rug.

But, if you're already at 4 years, with the original bulb likely to go in the next 6 months, why not order one now. It'll cost you the same as it would in 6 months but you simply save yourself the few day wait. We're at 3625 hours on our original samsung bulb now. We should also make it at least 4 years, or close to it.

96redformula said: I replaced mine at over 5500 hours thinking a new bulb might be a bit brighter, but to my surprise the new oem bulb was the same brightness and I wasn't ready for a bulb change yet. I have a high regard for BENQ having a bulb get 5500+ hours when my Epson 8350 would kill bulbs between 500-1000 hours.
https://pointerclicker.com/projector-life-expectancy/
As previously mentioned, the projector life expectancy is about 1500 to 2000 hours of lamp life. Although some newer projectors say they can last about 5000 hours. It’s important to note that these hours are the median range of life expectancy.

This should be a fairly easy one to answer. Laser projectors come with a much longer lifespan, and come with the added benefit of not having to regularly change the lamp. A lifespan of 20,000 hours is common for laser projectors, whereas the lamp life on a lamp projector can be as low as 2,500 hours.
