What are amp hours on a deep cycle battery? Amp hours refer to how many amps a battery will put out over a specified amount of hours. This information can be especially useful if you want to get a battery that will put out a specific number of amps to run a trolling motor or other auxiliary equipment like on an RV. This rating is specifically used on deep cycle batteries.

Amp-hours (at 12 volts) = watt-hours / 12 volts = 1470 / 12 = 122.5 amp-hours. If you are using a different voltage battery the amp-hours will change by dividing it by the battery voltage you are using. Now go back to Steps 2-4 above to refine your calculation.

In small batteries such as those used in personal vaporizers, or standard AA sized batteries, the amp hour rating is usually given in milli-amp hours, or (mAh). For large batteries, the rating is abbreviated as Ah. Most deep cycle batteries will tell you the Ah rating at multiple C ratings. The C rating tells you how many amp hours the battery can provide for a very specific period of time. …

A typical deep-cycle RV battery will be rated around 80 amp-hours, which in theory would supply one amp for 80 hours. However, in reality, if you discharge a lead-acid battery (what you likely have in your RV) more than 50% of the rated capacity you will greatly shorten the life span of the battery.

All Deep Cycle batteries are rated in Amp-Hours (AH). An Amp-Hour is one(1) amp for one(1) hour, or 10 amps for 1/10 of an hour and so forth. It is Amps multiplied (x) by Hours. For example, if you have something that draws 20 amps, and you use it for 20 minutes, then the amp-hours used would be 20 (amps) x .333 (hours), or 6.67 AH. The 20 Hour Rate is the accepted AH rating …
https://electronics.stackexchange.com/questions/23601/why-are-deep-cycle-batteries-rated-in-amp-hours-instead-of-watts-hours
Why are deep cycle batteries rated in amp-hours instead of watt-hours? For example if I see a 85Ah battery, I multiply 85Ah x 12V to get 1020 watts. As household electricity use is measured in watt hours (hence a kill-a-watt) this information seems more useful.

We learned how to recognize a real deep cycle battery and not a mislabeled starter battery We checked the discharge rating used by the manufacturer to arrive at their Amp Hour rating, where we determined a 100 Ampere Hour battery (at the 20 hour rating) would power our 5 Amp appliance for the required 20 hours
