Welcome to the Laboratory for Drug Delivery! Dr. Prausnitz and his colleagues carry out research on biophysical methods of drug delivery, which employ microneedles, ultrasound, lasers, electric fields, heat, convective forces and other physical means to control the transport of drugs, proteins, genes and vaccines into and within the body.

In the area of drug delivery, we focus on design of polymers for controlled delivery of therapeutic agents. One interest of ours is in designing pH-sensitive delivery systems whereby delivery of a therapeutic is facilitated by reduction in pH such as is observed in the tumor interstitium or in the endosome.

Drug delivery . The main current theme of our lab is utilizing polymers to deliver drugs, particularly various small molecules, genetically engineered proteins, DNA and RNAi, continuously at controlled rates for prolonged periods of time. Work currently in progress includes: a) investigating the mechanism of release from polymeric delivery ...

Oral delivery is the preferred route for drug administration because it is less invasive than other traditional routes. The pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries are continuously developing peptides, proteins, biopolymer, and macromolecular drugs for the treatment of a variety of diseases.

We have proposed a new paradigm in drug delivery, the refilling of a delivery device in vivo in a minimally invasive manner, via targeting with fresh drug payloads through the blood. In this paradigm, the injectable delivery device is modified to bind refills infused into the blood or taken orally.

Our lab is pursuing biomaterial, stem cell, and drug delivery research to address problems in multiple diseases arenas. Learn more about our specific projects here!
The Oupicky Lab focuses on exploring polymers and nanoparticles for delivery of drugs and nucleic acids. We are especially interested in pharmacologically active polymers (polymeric drugs) and in delivery vectors suitable for delivery of drug/gene, drug/siRNA, and drug/miRNA combinations in the treatment of acute kidney injury, metastatic cancer, liver and lung fibrosis, and inflammatory bowel ...
