I just got my first grocery home delivery - from Tesco - and I got the feeling that the delivery man was waiting for a tip. I didn't have any money handy and I wasn't about to start looking for my purse and then sorting out some money in front of him so i didn't give him anything.

I usually tip the people who deliver takeaway because you can just let them keep the change or whatever but with Tesco or Asda etc it would just feel weird giving them a small amount of money. I would probably if they didn't have a minimum delivery spend + delivery fee .

Jan 18, 2008 · If I lived in a house, I wouldnt tip. But if they have to make several trips up the stairs to a flat, i would give him a £2 coin. I read somewhere that delivery men only need to take goods to your front door (in a flat thats the outside door) because that is classed as a home delivery and if the driver chooses to take it up the stairs, its because he is being nice.

Thank you for your dramatic reply. Why do you think I asked? I am quite aware of the situation As for never tipping a delivery driver even under normal circumstances, I usually pay for all takeaways by cash as do a lot of people. I tip them too.

So you end up loading your own van and leaving 30 mins late, never to catch up with delivery time slots. The managers are mostly just out of school and clueless. Very much a blame-culture and zero recognition for a job well done, or going the extra mile for Tesco.
