Many women have (totally, completely unnecessary) episiotomies during hospital deliveries so vaginal birth is technically considered to be a surgical procedure in hospital text books.

No, you do not have to have your pubics shaven or waxed for delivery. In fact it's preferred that if you do, it's done at least 48 hrs prior due to chances of infection. But good luck trying to time that and natural labor, lol.
