It actually has nothing to do with the ammo, the sender can request and pay for the carrier to collect/require a signature for any delivery. IIRC the only shipments that by law/code are required to have an adult signature at the time of delivery are alcoholic beverages.

May 05, 2011 · Can't remember if Cabela's or Midway do. However, if a signature is required and you are not there when it is delivered they usually leave a tag on your door for you to sign. You sign the tag, place it back on your door the next day and they'll come buy, pick up the signature tag and leave your package on the porch. That has always been my experience.

When the note is left, the customer would need to go to their local post office to pickup the package and sign for it.
