If you create same delivery using VL04 you will find SAP will not create deliver if Delivery group materials are not available. Reason as per SAP note is that VL01N transaction is for employee who knows and can make decesion that shipment should go without complete delivery group items or not for example if any urgent delivery situation arises.

Delivery group is basically used whenever there is a group of material ie., like in bom if at all you do no have stock of the sub item and you have stock of main item, system will respond and create the deliver for every item in the records of sales order, dly and billing.

Jun 18, 2012 · You have assigned Delivery Groups – 1,2,3,4 to four line item so system will not re-check the Availibility Dates. Had you assigned same Delivery Group to more than one LIne Item, then system will check confirmed Dates of those Items (having same Delivery Group) & ensure that these Item are confirmed & Delivered on same date.
