It probably looks like a gruesome murder scene after elephants deliver their calves and I’m curious what an elephant giving birth looks like, but I don’t even dare google that.

I can vouch that babies are fine born before 40 weeks. I had twins born at 37 weeks and 1 day (considered full term for twins), and my next two pregnancies were scheduled for 39 weeks but I went into labor after 38 weeks. All babies were healthy and didn't have any issues.
