Aug 17, 2007 · Users can defer delivery using Outlook 2003/2007 by selecting the "Do not deliver before" date and time in Delivery Options of a message. My example message was sent at 12:04pm and schedule to be delivered at 12:10pm. Once sent, the email will stay in the Outbox until 12:10pm.

While the phrase "deferred delivery" might make you think that message is held on the destination server, it is in fact held in the queues on the source server. From the end-users perspective, the message immediately disappears from their mailbox and they cannot modify it if something occurs...

Any emails sent to the Exchange 2010 user accounts from local users or external addresses get queued in the 2003 server and listed as "Messages Queued for Deferred Delivery" The message is eventually bounced back to sender.

Aug 07, 2009 · Back with more problems! Everything was working great, I hade two clients on the exchange server 2007 and the rest on 2003. Everything was coming and going through the internet and the internal network. Than all of a sudden about 45 messages were in the queue called "Messages queued for deferred delivery" What is this about?

May 28, 2013 · My point is that Exchange 2003 is designed to hold messages that cannot be delivered; the ESE keeps trying, but if it fails the bottom line is the message stays in the queue, is sent to the BadMail folder, or is the subject of a NDR. (SMTP Connector) Remote Delivery DNS is a likely cause of routing problems. Can the two servers ping one another?

May 25, 2007 · With Deferred Send, Outlook must be running to send the message and the user can edit or remove the message before it's delivered. With Deferred Delivery, Outlook does not have to be running and the user cannot edit or remove the message before it's sent. Microsoft merged the two features together for Outlook 2003/2007.
