The Plantation includes a 27-room English countryside mansion filled with elaborate furnishings from 30 countries, surrounded by 22 acres of beautiful gardens and historic landscape.

This thesis examines Chinqua-Penn Plantation, a 1920s mansion located in the Piedmont of North Carolina. Once a private residence to Thomas Jefferson Penn and his wife, Beatrice Schoellkopf Penn, the home was donated to the State of North Carolina in the 1960s and was used as a historic house museum. After years of financial struggle caring for the house, the state chose to close the museum.
