The courthouse is part of Colonial Cahokia State Historic Sites complex that also includes the Jarrot Mansion and a Visitors Center. We were fortunate to arrive on a day the DNR employee was on duty and received a guided tour of the complex sites and the Holy Family Log Church.

The courthouse was dismantled in 1901. It was moved to St. Louis for the 1904 World’s Fair, and then to Chicago in 1906. Cahokia residents were able to have the courthouse returned and reconstructed on its original site in 1939. The courthouse is a High Potential Historic Site on the Lewis and Clark National Historic Trail.
