I've had three of these GM trucks with the hour meter info available on the cluster. 2002 Avalanche Z71,2007 2500HD Silverado Classic Duramax,and now a 2005 Escalade EXT. The only one that never reset it's own hour meter was the Avalanche. Both of the other trucks just suddenly went to zero and started counting again.
