While reading up on the Boeing C-17 Globemaster III, I came across a reference to its maintenance man-hours which surprised me. As listed in the spec sheet (emphasis mine): These requirements include an aircraft mission completion success probability rate of 92 percent, only 20 aircraft maintenance man-hours per flying hour, and full and partial mission availability rates of 74.7 and 82.5 percent, respectively.

These requirements include an aircraft mission completion success probability of 93 percent, only 18.6 aircraft maintenance manhours per flying hour, and full and partial mission capable rates of 74.7 and 82.5 percent respectively for a mature fleet with 100,000 flying hours. The C-17 measures approximately 174 feet long with a 170-foot wingspan.

Don’t come to the C-17 community expecting to get 600 – 900 hours per year. It’s probably closer to 400 to 500. The upgrade pace has also dropped drastically (since guys aren’t getting the hours). Overall, the deployment change of last summer has probably been a good thing for the community.
