This has become my favorite East Bay park close to my house. Whenever I feel like I want to do a butt-kicker hike but only have a couple of hours, I usually go to Briones. Whether you start on the PH/Martinez, Lafayette, or Orinda sides you will gain some serious elevation (about 1,400 feet) & get quite a workout.
