(A lifetime of about 140 operating hours) About 1995, we bought another Sears rotary push-mower, but this time it had a Briggs engine on it. It gets used a lot less, maybe 10 hours a year, but has held up far better. Sure, it has less hours (about 120 …

I've got 3-10 hp Tecumseh's on MTD snow blowers. We put alot of hours on those blowers & not one problem with the engines. New this year a 13hp OHV Tecumseh on a Toro blower. They seem to make a good cold weather engine. I believe all our old Lawnboy commercials were a 2-cycle Briggs. The machine allways fell apart around the engine.

Comments on Briggs & Stratton versus Tecumseh engines These two manufacturers produce the vast majority of small engines used in low to medium priced yard equipment. I have always preferred Tecumseh engines over Briggs & Stratton though perhaps this is more of a touchy-feely thing than representing any really fundamental difference between the two.

Answer (1 of 21): My previous two mowers (one had belonged to my father) were over 20 years old with well over a thousand hours on each when I sold them in good shape and bought my current mower. It now is 14 years old and has over 1100 hours on it. It plows the garden and pushes snow as well as ...

Answer (1 of 5): It basically depends on the application, and if you perform maintenance on the engine. Some people purchase a lawnmower and think the engine has oil in it. Even tho the oil is included and it has a large tag that says to ADD OIL. SO in that circumstance just a few hours until the...

Also I read the discussion about "Tecumseh vs Briggs and Stratton Engine" which indicates me that Tecumseh Engines has lots of problems, not good support from manufacturer, does not last, uses oil soon (I had a Ford Taurus and Mercury Marquis both were using oil after 50000 miles with other problems as well, which made me cross mark Ford, while ...

Briggs vanguard engine is best air cooled engine ever made.. Briggs intek is prob the worst. The model 9,10 sprint is a cracking little engine as is the Quantum. Briggs problems years ago was that they let OEMs dictate what engine due to price to be fitted instead of Briggs saying this is the engine that will be fitted.
