Keeping Brandeis Safe. The Department of Public Safety is responsible for the protection of life and property at Brandeis University. Brandeis University is committed to providing a safe living and learning environment, including open and ongoing efforts to inform the campus about safety issues.

Monday through Friday 5 p.m. to 9 a.m. (after business hours), as well as weekends and holidays students can call the University police at 781-736-5000 or 6-5000 from on campus and the dispatcher will notify the on-call personnel from Community Living to respond to the lockout.

The department consists of a chief, a lieutenant, five sergeants, 15 police officers, two security officers and four parking monitors who patrol the campus 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The university police enjoy strong professional relationships with federal, state and local law enforcement agencies.

Located in the Stoneman building, BEMCo operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week during the academic year. Student volunteers are all Massachusetts-state certified emergency medical technicians (EMTs). BEMCo is equipped with two class V ambulances inspected and certified by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health, and the latest in emergency medical equipment.

BEMCo responds to all medical emergencies on Brandeis University property including the residence halls, academic buildings and athletic facilities. BEMCo provides coverage 24 hours/day, 7 days/week throughout the year except when residence halls are closed, such as Christmas break.
