Open 7 days of a week excluding most state holidays. Summer Hours (Memorial Day through Labor Day): 10:00 AM-5:00 PM; Earl Museum closes at 4:30 PM. Admissions close forty-five minutes before the closing time. Lock up begins at 4:45 PM. Guided tours available-Monday and Thursday - 2:30 PM (Depends on Volunteer’s availability)

In 1973 the Idaho State Penitentiary closed to inmates. Now our doors are open for visitors to explore over 100 years of Idaho's unique prison history. Open year-round, visitors of the Old Idaho Penitentiary can walk through solitary confinement, cell blocks, and the gallows.

The site is open seven days a week except for major state holidays. Regular hours are 12 pm-5 pm (last admission 4 pm). Summer hours (Memorial Day-Labor Day) are 10 am-5 pm (last admission 4 pm). Please note: Policies Updated November 23, 2021. Pre-purchasing admission online before arrival is strongly encouraged for ease of entry.
