The Big Sable Lighthouse is a 112 foot tower that was constructed in 1867. It was originally built of brick but since the outside was eroding away it was covered in steel plating and painted a distinctive black and white stripe design. The lighthouse had a third order Fresnel Lens that was removed and is in a local museum.
