Bear Stearns by far was the best company I have ever worked for from a circle of levels. The culture was sophisticated but not snoody. Very nice people who all wanted to thrive in NY. The best of the best. The cafeteria was excellent. There wasn't a lot of promotion and transferring to different areas but the salary was competitive enough to stay.
