Jan 25, 2014 at 3:01 AM. I know you are getting a lot of different responses to this but my lactation consultant told me babies shouldn't sleep more then 3 hrs in between feelings at this age. Sleeping 4-6 hrs would be normal when your baby is older. And it most definitely will affect your supply. l.

So yes, your newborn awake for 6 hours straight likely means he’s overtired. As always, the best place to start is with your pediatrician. She knows your baby well and can diagnose medical issues you might miss, like an ear infection.

Sleeping through the night is usually defined as sleeping six to eight straight hours overnight. But remember, that’s only a fraction of the total 10 to 12 hours (or more) of sleep babies generally need at night, depending on age and stage, in addition to daytime naps.

At least two to three hours of those hours should be daytime naps. Over time, babies gradually start sleeping for longer stretches at night. A 4-month-old might sleep for a six- or eight-hour stretch at night, while a 6-month old can go for 10 or 11 hours. As your baby nears her first birthday, she’ll sleep between 10 and 12 hours at night.

1. Babies can sometimes sleep for 6 hours at a stretch without food, right after they are 6 months old or higher. For babies younger than that, the duration would be shorter of course. For example, babies of an age range of 0-4 weeks can sleep for 4 stretch hours at max without any essence of food. 2.

Babies this age may sleep for six-hour stretches at night, and settle into more of a set nap schedule now.

Baby sleeping 6+ hours??: My girl is 5.5 weeks old. The past two nights she has slept 7 straight hours and again 6 hours. Did anyone else's baby do the same? She sleeps during the day as well but only for an hour or two. Wondering if this is part of her growth spurt?? - BabyCenter Canada
