To me, the cost to purchase these hives far outweighs the time it would take me to go get materials, get all the materials rough cut, finish cut, dry fitted, assembled, finished (about 20 hours per hive counting pickup of materials - the frames actually take the longest to make). I probably couldn't have built these any better.

If you have to you can do: a) Paint during dusk/night when the bees are inside but wait a day or two after installation b) Put the bee in their container inside the box, paint it and when dry release/install the bees.
