After working as an astronomer for a career lasting nearly 40 years I think I can provide an answer. When I worked on the Apollo Project for three years my hours were 8:20 to 4:15. A subsequent job on a classified missile project had similar hours. After that I taught astronomy and worked in planetariums for 34 years.
