Arasta Bazaar has a really nice atmosphere which includes the fun of a bazaar (cats wandering the curbs, trays of tea passing by at unnaturally high speeds, vendors standing at the doors with a solid welcoming smile) but without the high pressure craziness of other bazaars. ... 5 reviews of Arasta Bazaar "Shop without any hassle A nice little bazaar. It's just one little street, but nicely done. It's open every day until the evening (we passed it always around 9pm - still open). There are the usual spice and turkish delight shops, but also lots of art and crafts shops.

The Grand Bazaar is almost like an maze; even locals get lost in there for a few hours! Arasta Bazaar is not going to be somewhere you lose yourself, but you can easily while away an hour or so, checking out souvenirs to take back home, whilst absorbing the fun and rather noisy atmosphere at the same time.

Arasta Bazaar is a favourite of mine (for the last 15 years I have come to Istanbul 2/3 times a year). Is little and not as “aggressive” as the Grand Bazaar but you can find all the same things (just in smaller quantities): Iznick porcelain, Hanmam towels, spices, sweets, jewellery, carpets and the beautiful cloths typical of Turkey (cannot remember the name now!!!)

The Arasta Bazaar is in the heart of the historical Sultanahmet area, just behind the Blue Mosque. Quite a bit more commercial than most markets in Istanbul, but I still enjoyed walking by the various shops. Found it costlier than Grand and Spice Bazaars. But the best collection of cushion covers.
