Furthermore, the hours aren't easy. Most anesthesiologists work in the vicinity of 60 hours a week. Remember, you have to be there before and after the surgery. Also, there is note writing, but not to the extent of IM. The biggest con of anesthesia is unless you're a Pain management doc or critical care doc, you're an ancillary service.
