Tip 1: the opening hours of Akrotiri is rather strange. Akrotiri is open 8:30am to 3pm Tuesday through Sunday. We didnt manage to go in because we were late and they were shut by the time we get there Tip 2: although we didnt manage to get to Akrotiri, the town itself is a little gem to explore.

Akrotiri is referred to as the ‘Greek Pompeii’ because the site was covered in volcanic ash. And, like its Italian namesake, a charred bed was also recovered by archaeologists. This along with a number of frescoes and other artefacts are on display in the Akrotiri of Thera Room in the National Archaeological Museum in Athens.

It also houses findings from many other places of Thera which date back from the Newer Neolithic Period and present the passage of various cultures from the Aegean Sea in a long period of Prehistory.
