UPDATE: 4/7/21 - ʻAkaka Falls State Park is OPEN. Starting the April 7, 2021 the gates will be resume regular opening and closing. Gate hours will be 8:00am to 5:00pm. Entrance fee of $5 for non-residents, even those parked outside of the gates. Paid parking and/or entrance fees are required for non-residents.

The airport in Hilo has all the major car rental agencies. Akaka falls isn't too far from Hilo, maybe 10 miles or so. It really shouldn't take you more than 45 minutes to an hour to take the very short loop trail to see the falls. This isn't an all-day event. Unfortunately, Hawaii Volcanoes Nat'l Park is closed.4.5/5(6.2K)
