The Lincoln house sits in the middle of a restored neighborhood preserved and maintained by the National Park Service. The Lincoln Home is lovingly restored and is wonderful to visit. We picked-up our free tickets at the Visitor's Center and began our tour 10 minutes later.4.5/5(2.8K)

Historic site. In 1837, Lincoln moved to Springfield from New Salem at the start of his law career. He met his wife, Mary Todd, at her sister's home in Springfield and married there in 1842. The historic-site house at 413 South Eighth Street at the corner of Jackson Street, bought by Lincoln and his wife in 1844, was the only home that Lincoln ever owned.

We walked from the downtown area, about .9 mile - an easy walk, but they have plenty of parking too. There is a $5.00 charge, but very worth it. It goes to the further restoration and maintenance of this beautiful home. You will see the couch where Abraham and Mary Todd courted. The was the home of Mary's sister and brother-in-law.
