May 16, 2008 · In IIS SMTP I've clicked on properties of the default smtp server --> Delivery --> Advanced and put in the FQDN field: " dedicated server name.domain name.local " and in the smarthost field I've put in " mailforwarding.hostingcompany.com ". Applied all and restart the SMTP service.

Jun 13, 2012 · Hi All: I have an intermittent problem with SMTP delivery when trying to deliver mail to a domain on the same mailserver that's specified as the smarthost for the SMTP connector. Both the IIS server and the mailserver set as the smarthost are on the same subnet. Occasionally mail fails to be delivered with a 5.3.5 error, like this sample below.
